20 Mornings
Twenty Mornings is a personal project that began with a simple idea: to visually express the random emotions I feel when I wake up each day. These feelings—whether it’s anxi ety, calm, nostalgia, or something harder to name—don’t always translate into words. For me, photography is the best way to give them shape.
In this series, I use flowers in still-life setups to show different emotional states. The shape of flower, and what objects I pair it with—all of that helps express a certain feeling. Like, in one photo, I stuck a bunch of body-piercing studs into a lily—to show the combination of desire and the tension between beauty and danger. And in another one, I pierced sunflowers with long needles, as a way to represent emotional pain.
From a technical side, I mostly use hard lighting—like side light and rim light—to really bring out the textures and make the flower stand out from the background. I keep the compositions centered and use gradient backgrounds to keep things clean and focused. All of that helps me present each flower as its own emotional statement—something bold, clear, and purely visual.
I want each photograph to speak through its visual impact—the raw experience of seeing—before any interpretation arises. I’m not really into over-explaining images with a bunch of text. For me, a strong photograph should be able to stand on its own and grab your attention. Because as photographers, our medium is not the written word; it is the language of light, shadow, and form.
